So the cat is still growing on me. Fiance is out of town for the next few days, meaning I'm primary cat caregiver. She spent most of Sunday hiding behind the dresser, eventually moved out to under the blankets by the bed. She has since found a better spot to hide, and I may not see her except for mealtimes for awhile. I'm assuming she does feel comfortable around me, which is weird to see from a cat.

Anyone have any good places to learn how to do any of this sort of work? I normally wouldn't pay for a computer background, but this guy's work is amazing, and I'm considering at least the 90 day membership to get more pretty.

I'll have to poke around and see if there's any sort of class to figure out which programs are workable - it's just very far out of my realm of expertise.

Again, if you have a facebook, you've probably seen these, but feels like I should post them anyway.

Got a new camera for the holiday. Took it out to the zoo to play with it. Some really good shots, overall easier to use. Need to poke at the manual a bit to see about custom settings and then play with them. I particularly like the big cat pictures, the giraffe pictures, the Meerkat Justice League, and the tortoises. I would have taken a different sifaka jumping video, but I had stupidly forgotten to give the camera battery a full charge.

Can't get great closeups of them, but here are some of the necklaces I've been making. The elemental ones are all magnetic - there are magnetic beads woven around the strand that make it possible to wrap the necklace around a neck or wrist a few times. Only one of the magnetics currently has a clasp, as they really don't need them. Magnetic beads are pricey, though, so I use the remaining beads to make regular necklaces.

Those of you who asked for necklaces, they'll be sent out this week. If anyone else wants one, let me know in that post here. Comments are screened. Those of you who commented with addresses, I've written them down and deleted them, just to make sure they don't get mistakenly unscreened.

Animal park in upstate NY with baby lemurs which are hard to get decent pictures of )

I just thought this was a neat face in the wood.

If I'm going to walk around, there might as well be animals. This is the sister to the park I posted a few entries ago.

Pretty camp in the Adirondacks. My mom took me there over Mother's Day weekend, in the hopes I'd relax.

Found these, thought they might be interesting for people. These are from my presentation at the British Forum for Ethnomusicology conference in 2004 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Let's just say I didn't attend every single session :)

I tried out another animal park today - smaller than the zoo, but nice. Interesting advantage that you could feed most of the animals, including the lemurs, various monkeys, the wolves, and the bears. Lots of domestic animals to pet and feed, as well.

I have a membership to the LA Zoo, and it has reciprocity with Pittsburgh, so I can go to the zoo for free. It's nice during the week - not a lot of crowds.
